BROOKHAVEN — Preston Edwards had a perfect game throwing the football as he went 11-for-11 for 286 yards and three touchdowns to lead Cathedral past West Lincoln 42-18 Friday in the Region 4-1A finale for both teams.
Edwards had touchdown passes of 57 and 40 yards to Kole Junkin and 15 yards to Daniel Huffines. Junkin had three catches for 144 yards to go with a 20-yard touchdown run while Huffines had three catches for 55 yards.
“I was glad to see us play good offensively,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “Defensively, we didn’t play as well as we could have. They ran right at us to begin the game and we couldn’t stop them.”
Calvin Keys was the main player on West Lincoln’s offense the Green Wave had problems containing. He had a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 4-yard scoring run in the third quarter.
The one player on Cathedral’s defense that had a breakout performance was Semmes White, who had three interceptions. JEB White and Stowers Mohon each had three solo tackles and six assists. White also had a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
“He had a good game in pass coverage,” Beesley said about White.
As for finishing the season on a positive mark with back-to-back wins to finish at 5-5 overall and in region play, Beesley said, “We had a good year. We had a tough stretch in the middle of the season. But these kids played real hard. I think they enjoyed the last two games.”
West Lincoln (0-11, 0-10) also scored on a 32-yard pass from Tyler Case to Nathaniel Pruski in the fourth quarter.
