WOODVILLE — Todd Gonda led four WCCA players in double figures with 24 points as the Rams opened up their season with a thrilling 64-59 win over Class AAA Parklane Tuesday night.
WCCA nearly let a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter slip away. However, the Rams (1-0) won the game by outscoring the Pioneers 20-16 in the deciding fourth quarter.
Parklane struggled to fine its rhythm in the first quarter and was down 14-5 as the second quarter got under way. But the Pioneers chipped into the Rams’ lead and by the time the third quarter had come to an end, they were down by just one point, 44-43.
And despite a brilliant performance by Blake Rhodus, who also scored 24 points, Parklane could not keep the momentum going when it counted and WCCA escaped with the win.
In addition to Gonda, the Rams got double-digit scoring from Tip McKenzie, who finished with 16 points; Luke Whitaker, who had 11 points; and George Davis, who added 10 points.
