George Ferrell

BROOKHAVEN – Services for George Rabb Ferrell, 88, of Brookhaven, who died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Kings Daughters Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Prospect Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Brookhaven Funeral Home, Natchez Drive.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Ferrell was born May 29, 1920, in Monterey, one of five boys and two girls of Albert and Jessie Ferrell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married his wife of 66 years, Pearl, on Feb. 6, 1944, in Rome, Ga. After the war, they moved to Brookhaven where he worked in the oil industry at Brookhaven Field for 40 years, retiring from Chevron at 62.
After retirement, he and his wife served as volunteer staff at Central Hills Baptist Retreat in Kosciusko for 14 years and did volunteer mission trips through the Southern Baptist Convention for many years.
He will be remembered for his faith and service to God, his love of family and his particular “gift to gab” entrancing all who listened with stories of growing up in the rural backwoods of Louisiana and pioneering the oil fields of Brookhaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Ferrell; four children, Larry Ferrell and wife, Mildred, both of Magee, Glenda Robinson and husband, Danny, and Lonnie Ferrell and wife, Judy, all of Brookhaven, and Keith Ferrell and wife, Sherry, both of Hammond, La.;13 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
