NATCHEZ — After back-to-back wins over Class 2A Loyd Star and longtime rival St. Aloysius, Cathedral was hoping to keep its momentum going Friday night at home against Wesson.

Unfortunately, that would not be the case as the Lady Cobras made four three-pointers during a 20-point first quarter and went on to defeat the Lady Green Wave 56-23.

Wesson (5-2) was led by Ann Shelby Davis with 14 points and Ansley Schimmel with 12 points. Cathedral (2-3), on the other hand, scored no more than eight points in any of the four quarters.

Epiphany Jackson, Ana Perry, Ginny Daggett and Blair Brooks each scored four points for the Lady Green Wave.

NATCHEZ — It took three three-pointers late in the second quarter for Wesson to take a double-digit halftime lead over a young but scrappy Cathedral team.

Unfortunately for the Green Wave, they were not able answer in the second half and the result was a 21-point loss Friday night.

Despite the loss, Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said he was encouraged by the progress the team is making.

“This was by far the best we’ve played so far. We played four freshmen and a sophomore. You can’t get any younger. It’s an uphill battle every night,” he said.

The first quarter ended in a surprising 15-15 tie and the game was still a good one until Wesson (6-1) started hitting its shots from beyond the three-point line. At halftime the Cobras led 34-23. Cathedral (0-5) could not slow down the Cobras in the third quarter and ended up trailing 59-38.

Tyler Lumley led Wesson with 27 points while Cody King and Jeremy Smith had 12 points each. Carl Hammitte led four Cathedral players in double figures with 16 points and Zach West had 15 points.

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Mary Miller Ratcliff and Mary Elizabeth Crigler combined to score 30 points as the Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Lions Friday night to improve to 4-3 on the season.

Ratcliff led all scorers with 16 and Crigler finished with 14 points for Tensas Academy, which kept CENLA Christian off the scoreboard for each of the first three quarters.

The Lady Chiefs will take on Prairie View Academy at 11 a.m. Monday as part of the Huntington Doubleheader.
