NATCHEZ – Services for Denton L. “Flop” Thomas, 78, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Pastor Ray Holland and Judge John Hudson officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Thomas was born May 22, 1930, in Adams County, the son of James Denton and Myrtie Brown Thomas. He was a member of Trace City Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served as past president and president emeritus of the District 10 Ole Miss Alumni Association and was a member of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
Mr. Thomas was retired from Armstrong Tire Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Carl “Little Flop” Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Fleeta Beth Thomas of Natchez; one daughter, Cheryl Laughinghouse and husband, Terry, both of Russellville, Ark.; two sons, Carl Thomas and wife, Paula, both of Paoli, Pa. and Jeff Thomas and wife, Felicia, both of Monroe, La.; two stepsons, Louie Gilbert and Lloyd Gilbert and Bennie Boone, all of Natchez; four grandchildren, Drew Laughinghouse, Sara Laughinghouse, Jessica Thomas Snyder and husband, Mike, and Michael Wilson; and former daughter-in-law, Jan Wilson and husband, Dave, both of Natchez.
Pallbearers will be Carl Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Louie Gilbert, Lloyd Gilbert, Gene McGehee and Vernon Smith.
Memorials may be made to Trace City Baptist Children’s Church or to a charity of choice.
