Julia Reed, Greenville native, will be signing books at Cover to Cover Books & More, 401 Main St., from 1 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.
She is a senior writer at Vogue, a contributing editor at Newsweek and writes for the New York Times Magazine, among other publications. Her first book, “Queen of the Turtle Derby and other Southern Phenomena” was published in 2004. “Ham Biscuits, Hostess Gowns, and Other Southern Specialties — an Entertaining Life (with recipes)” was published in July of 2008, as well as “The House on First Street: My New Orleans Story.”
“Ham Biscuits, Hostess Gowns, and Other Southern Specialties” is a look at Southern food and entertaining, and includes collected material from The New York Times Magazine.
In this heartwarming memoir of a lifetime of culinary delight, she recounts her first fabulous Southern garden party at the age of 7 and a most spectacular New Year’s Eve dinner she prepared in New Orleans. Many of her favorite recipes are included.
“The House on First Street” is a true love letter to her adopted home. She divides her time between New York and New Orleans, and eventually married and bought a house in the historic Garden District.
Four weeks after she moved in, Hurricane Katrina struck. In the book she recounts the frustrations of dealing with a homeless handyman and a laid-back contractor with Hollywood ambitions.
