Saints split games

RIDGELAND — The Trinity Saints remain undefeated through five games after the first round of the MRA Tournament Monday.

The Saints defeated East Rankin Academy 58-46 behind double-digit scoring from four players.

Jordan Dossett scored 14, Andrew Johnson scored 13, Givonni Dent put up 11 and Brandon Daggs added 10 to help put away East Rankin.

Johnson and Dent recorded double-doubles with 18 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Jake Pickett put up 12 points and Spencer Shoemaker recorded 8 for East Rankin.

The Saints’ next game is Thursday against Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

MRA 36, Trinity girls 30

RIDGELAND — Despite 6 points and 14 rebounds by Madelyn Cross, the Lady Saints could not get over the hump against Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

Trinity (5-5) missed multiple lay-up opportunities in the first half to fall into a 7-point deficit at the end of the second quarter.

Although the Lady Saints caught back up by scoring 21 points in the second half, led by Caroline Ketchings’ 12 points, it wasn’t quite enough to get the victory.

Stephanie Steen scored 10 for MRA, while Haley Jones and Haley Cox added 8 points apiece.

Trinity’s next game is Saturday. against Huntington

Natchez High girls 45,

Hazlehurst 42, OT

HAZLEHURST — The Natchez High Lady Bulldogs overcame a shaky second half to defeat Hazlehurst in overtime Monday night.

The Lady Bulldogs led 26-16 at halftime, but scored just 11 points in the second half and allowed Hazlehurst to tie the score at the end of regulation.

However, Natchez outscored the Lady Indians 8-5 in the overtime period to escape with a victory.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Ashley Minor and Ayana Jones, who both scored 16 points.

Hazlehurst’s Jasmine Bozeman led all scorers with 29 points.

However, no other Hazlehurst player scored more than five points in the game.

Natchez High improved its record to 2-0 with the victory and will host Franklin County tonight.
