NATCHEZ — Services for Gabriel Barnes Jr., 92, of Natchez, who died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, in Sibley, with the Rev. James E. Brooks officiating.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Barnes was born March 28, 1916, in Adams County, the son of Gabriel Sr. and Virginia Barnes. He attended Adams County schools and was an insurance agent for George F. West Funeral Home for 30 years. He was retired.
Mr. Barnes was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church where he served as a devoted deacon, treasurer for 40 years and a choir member for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one godson, Frank Jones; three brothers, William Cooks, Ben Barnes and Richard Barnes; and four sisters, Letticia B. Marks, Ella B. Williams, Mary B. Oglesby and Mamie Barnes.
Survivors include his loving wife, Hattie J. Barnes; one daughter, Taji L. Henyard and husband, Dave, both of Petal; one goddaughter, Gloria Miller of Natchez; three grandchildren, Daylin Gabriel-Lee, Nyla Leilani and Jayda La’Shan Henyard, all of Petal; one brother, McKinley Barnes Sr. of Natchez; and two sisters, Virginia B. Hawkins and Luese Barnes, both of Detroit.
