MONTEREY — The second half and overtime were not particularly kind to the Cathedral Lady Green Wave as they lost to the Delhi Charter Lady Gators 46-41 Thursday night at the Monterey High School Invitational.
Cathedral took a 23-13 lead into halftime, but Delhi Charter took advantage of poor shooting in the second half to force overtime and eventually win the game. The Lady Gators will take on host Monterey today at 6 p.m. while the Lady Green Wave (2-5) will take on St. Joseph-Plaucheville (La.) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Eagles saw Harrisonburg rally in the fourth quarter to take a dramatic 50-45 win.
“We missed probably 30 shots underneath the goal in the second half. We hurried a little bit in the second half,” Cathedral head coach Kathy Graning said. “The first half we were moving the ball around and had good shots. We’ve got to work on our offensive rebounding. There were too many possessions that were one-and-done.”
Delhi Charter got back in the game by outscoring Cathedral 10-2 in the third quarter. The Lady Gators then forced the game to go into overtime with a 14-12 edge in the fourth quarter. With the Lady Green Wave’s offensive woes continuing in overtime, the Lady Gators outscored them 9-4 for the five-point victory.
“The effort was there. Some of my young players are stepping up and playing well, which bodes well for the future,” Graning said.
Dee Dee Killon led Delhi Charter with a game-high 15 points. Ginny Daggett led Cathedral in scoring with 10 points.

BAKER, La. — It wasn’t pretty, but the Huntington Lady Hounds picked up a big win over the Class AA Central Private Lady Rebels Thursday night thanks to balanced scoring and a stifling defense.
The second half proved to be the turning point in this low-scoring ball game. The score was 11-11 at halftime. Not at the end of the first quarter, but at the half. When the third quarter got under way, Huntington seized the momentum. The Lady Hounds outscored the Lady Rebels 10-4 in that quarter and then used a 13-7 advantage in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
Abi Brown led Huntington (5-5) with 11 points while Julie Moak had eight points and Sara Hoover had seven points. Central Private was led by H. Ussery with seven points and S. Fryoux with six points.
ACCS 53, Amite School Center 35
LIBERTY — Ashley Morrison had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Sabrena Belgard was close to having a double-double of her own as she finished with 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the visiting Lady Rebels past the host Lady Rebels Thursday night.
ACCS (6-4) took control of this game in the opening minutes of the first quarter and never looked back. By the time the quarter was over, the visitors from Natchez had a commanding 21-5 lead. Once halftime had arrived, the Lady Rebels were up 31-13.
Melanie Reed and Coleigh Carnegie each scored 11 points to lead Amite School Center.
