NATCHEZ — Services for Raymond Dunbar Colter Jr., 82, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Brown and Dr. John Larson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Colter was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Ferriday, the son of Raymond Dunbar Colter Sr. and Irene Ennis Colter.
He attended Texas A&M University and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by National Supply Company and Miss-Lou Oil before founding Magnolia Oil Field Services. He served as the president of the Confederate Oil Invitational and captain of The RuRu. Mr. Colter served on the board of directors for Natchez Regional Medical Center for 17 years. He was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, an elder, treasurer, youth director and was on the executive committee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Johnnie Colter Harrist; and one niece, Barbara Prestridge Bishop.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth Powell Colter; three daughters, Sandra Colter Burkes and husband, Eddie, both of Oxford, Linda Colter Lundy and husband, McKinley, both of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Susan Colter Hollingsworth and husband, Guy, both of London, England; eight grandchildren, Colter Burkes and wife, Marietta Echeverria, both of Silver Spring, Md., Joanna Burkes Brumfield and husband, Clif, both of Natchez, Anna Lundy of Nashville, Tenn., Mack Lundy and wife, Laura Bock, Sarah Lundy and Adam Lundy, all of Chattanooga, Alex Hollingsworth and wife, Brandi, both of Florence and Stephen Hollingsworth of Natchez; three great-grandchildren, Max Colter Burkes and Luke Turner Burkes, both of Silver Spring and Cooper Dunbar Brumfield of Natchez; two nieces, Bobbie Prestridge Merchant and husband, Gerald, both of Kaplan, La. and Frances Prestridge Richard of Jonesville; and one nephew, Davis Prestridge of Lake Charles, La.
Pallbearers will be Colter Burkes, Clif Brumfield, Alex Hollingsworth, Stephen Hollingsworth, Mac Lundy and Adam Lundy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church.
