Ferriday — It wasn’t a cakewalk for Vidalia, but the Vikings held off a stingy Ferriday Trojan team and took home a 67-51 win Tuesday night in Ferriday.

Vidalia (8-1) defeated Ferriday Saturday in the Ronnie Brown Memorial Tournament 60-50 and remains undefeated against the Trojans this season.

The Vikings started the game with an 11-2 run and rolled through the first half thanks to hot shooting.

“We have got to give credit to Vidalia,” Ferriday head coach Glenn Henderson said. “We struggled with rebounds and were careless with the ball. We were not committed to defense.”

Poor free throw shooting and a determined Trojan team wore Vidalia down in the third quarter and Ferriday began chipping away at the lead.

“We need to keep teams down,” Vidalia head coach Robert Sanders said. “Poor defensive transitions and too many turnovers hurt us.”

Ferriday climbed within 10 of the Vikings before foul trouble shut down any hopes the Trojans had at the end of the game.

“We know that Ferriday never gives up,” Sanders said. “I’m not satisfied with our free throw shooting and the turnovers.”

Quatrell Thomas led all scorers with 23 points while teammate Torrey Dixon added 11.

Carlton Robinson and DeMarco Lewis both led the Trojans with 16 points each.

Ferriday and Vidalia both begin play in the Ferriday Tournament tonight.

Power outages forced the game to end early, but enough basketball was played for the Ferriday Lady Trojans to take a 45-24 win over the Vidalia Lady Vikings Tuesday night.

Ferriday only allowed Vidalia to score two points in the first, and maintained that level of play throughout the game.

Ferriday’s twin towers, Jasmine Upchurch and Jalessia Davis, were pulled after the first quarter and the Lady Trojans subbed in some second string players throughout the game.

Right after the beginning of the fourth quarter the lights went out and a darkened gym forced the game to be called with the Lady Trojans up 45-24.

Jasmine Upchurch led all scorers with 16 points.
