NATCHEZ — Memorial services and celebration of life for Margaret Jeanette Burkley, 80, a life-long resident of Natchez, who died peacefully at her home Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, will be announced at a later date.
Maggie was well known locally as an art and antiques dealer, an active preservationist and a psychic. She was well known for her great enthusiasm, energy and eccentric creative genius. Famous for her theme parties, decorations and cakes, she was loved by all who knew her.
She was the daughter of Stanley Melton and Katherine Engbarth Burkley. She was a graduate of Natchez High School, attended All Saints in Vicksburg, Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tenn., Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans and the Sorbonne in Paris. She was previously married to Neville Marshall of Landsdowne and to Larry Ferney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Joseph Emile “Jack” Burkley; and grandson, M.J. “Jack” Moody III.
Survivors include five children, Kathy Moody, Marion Drennen and husband, Mark, Charlotte Marshall, Morgan Pevonka and husband, Peter, and Buck Marshall; one brother, Stanley Engbarth Burkley; 12 grandchildren, Merrick Moody, Emily and Jessica Piazza, Angelique and Rodney Tassistro, Andrienne Drennen, Aaron Hennington, Chesney Wheeler, Buck Brumfield, Megan Edmonds, Charlotte Marshall and Morgan Marshall; and 10 great-grandchildren, Walker Smith, Presley and Braden Hennington, Marshall Edmonds, Mitchell Givens, Bodi and Dagan Brumfield, Miah and Brittyn Wheeler and Jackson Moody.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Natchez Humane Society.
