NATCHEZ — Between two and four inches of snow is expected to fall this morning in Adams County.
NWS forecasters and meteorologists are predicting between two to four inches of snow will have fallen by late this morning.
Meteorologist Jim Fairly said the snow will likely start by 4 a.m. and taper off by 9 a.m.
Fairly said since past few days have seen warm weather, the ground temperature won’t be cool enough to allow the snow to gather on roads.
But Fairly did say the snow will fall fast enough to cover grassy areas, cars and roofs.
And NWS’s latest advisory has prompted local officials to get ready for the white stuff.
Janet Sullivan, Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Assistant to Commissioner Wayne Brown, said MDOT crews are on standby and ready to dispense chemicals to thaw the Mississippi River Bridge should it gather ice.
President of the Adams County Board of Supervisors Henry Watts said the county is also on standby with loads of sand to cover the county’s roads in the event ice builds on them.
“We’ll be ready,” Watts said.
Additional crewmen with the Adams County Road Crew are also on standby, Watts said.
Similarly, Mayor Jake Middleton said the Natchez Police Department will keep watch over local bridges for icy conditions.
“Everybody’s sitting on go,” he said. “Everybody’s ready.”
