Cycling workshop scheduled for Dec. 17 in Natchez

The city of Natchez and the Natchez Bicycle Club will host a Bicycle Friendly Community workshop at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the City Council Chambers.
Sponsored by Bike Walk Mississippi and the League of American Bicyclists the program will provide resources for becoming a more bike-friendly community and receiving bicycle friendly certification
This is a collaborative workshop intended for all kinds of community leaders including city planners, elected officials, advisory boards, business leaders, cycling groups, educational leaders such as PTA members and school officials and anyone else who might be interested in or benefit from improving the bike-ability of the community.
The workshop is designed to be the catalyst for a dramatic improvement in conditions for bicycling in a community.
Jeff Peel, program specialist with the League of American Bicyclists, will be the featured speaker.
The workshop is one of five being put on around the state.
Other are in Hernando on Dec. 15, Starkville on Dec. 16, Hattiesburg on Dec. 18 and Jackson on Dec. 29.
The Bicycle Friendly Community workshops are one of many community service projects sponsored by Bike Walk Mississippi, which is a non-profit advocacy group that works to promote cycling and pedestrian activities throughout Mississippi.
Donations are accepted online to help continue community projects.
Bike Walk Mississippi works to become the state level clearinghouse for bicycle educational information, activities and resources.
