NATCHEZ — A recent spending spree has come to an end for one local couple — and landed them behind bars.
On Wednesday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office arrested Leah G. Nugent, 24, and Christopher D. Steinforth III, 22, for a home burglary on Lake Montrose Road on Dec. 1.
Deputy Maj. Jody Waldrop said after that incident, Nugent and Steinforth, who had some relation to the victim, allegedly stole a laptop computer and a safe containing cash.
While Waldrop said he didn’t know the amount of cash in the safe before the robbery, or how the couple opened the safe.
However, approximately $3,000 in cash was recovered from Steinforth at the time of his arrest.
Waldrop said investigators learned that the couple had allegedly been spending large amounts of cash in several businesses around town.
“We were also able to recover some receipts from (Steinforth) at his arrest,” Waldrop said.
Waldrop said some of the couple’s expenditures allegedly included court fines, auto parts and tattoos.
Both Nugent and Steinforth are being held in the county jail without bond.
