NATCHEZ — Glenn Earl Switzer Sr., “Moonpie” as he was known to his friends, 79, of Baker, La., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at his son’s home in Natchez. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Switzer was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Dwight, Kan. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He battled cancer for several months.
Glenn was an avid hunter and loved to play golf. Until his illness, he continued to work through his retirement as a security guard with L.L. Private Patrol in Baton Rouge. Prior to retirement, he worked as a master carpenter and as a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; six children, Glenn Switzer and wife, Rhonda, L.J. Switzer and wife, Sonja, Jack Switzer and wife, Dianne, Dorene Bates and husband, Ernie, David Switzer and Mark Switzer and wife, Linda; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters who will miss him, Phyllis, Shirley and Marion, all of Dwight.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all who cared for him during his illness, especially his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Rhonda Switzer.
