EUNICE, La. (AP) — Witnesses tell Eunice police that a 26-year-old man killed by a locomotive was trying to outrun the freight train.

Police say Shawn Manuel of Eunice died about 9 p.m. Monday night.

Witnesses told police they saw the man notice the Union Pacific Railroad train picking up speed, then run to the crossing in an attempt to beat it across.

Eunice police say they are still investigating the incident.
