FERRIDAY — Services for Sam Thomas Jr., 82, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Reed Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin Conner officiating.
Burial will follow at Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Thomas was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Ferriday, the son of Sam and Laura Brown Thomas. He was a truck driver and was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include six brothers, Joe Lee Thomas of Dallas, Gip Thomas and wife, Octavia, both of Orange, Texas, Isaac Thomas and wife, Beatrice, both of Lake Charles, La., Johnny Thomas of Monroe, La., Willie Thomas and wife, Audrey, and Richard Thomas and wife, Ingrid, all of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Sarah Thomas of Ferriday and Mildred Thomas of Monroe; one aunt, Dorothy Brackens of Ferriday; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
