FERRIDAY — Using a strong press defense, the Trinity Lady Saints limited the Huntington Lady Hounds to six first half points and handily won the non-district contest by a score of 45-24.
Trinity started the game with an 11-0 run and didn’t allow Huntington to score until Sara Hoover hit a shot with 37 seconds left in the quarter.
The Lady Hounds continued to struggle on offense and scored only four more points in the second quarter to go into the locker room down 30-6 at the half.
“Defensively our intensity has picked up,” Trinity head coach Richy Spears said. “Good defense will generate offense.”
In the second half the Trinity second string saw significant playing time and held Huntington to 18 points throughout the half.
Madelyn Cross led Trinity with 10 points while Caroline Ketchings and Bethany Ogden each added nine.
Emilee Johns led Huntington with 12 points.
Trinity will host ACCS Thursday in their District 3-2A opener.
Huntington will host Tensas Academy tonight in a District 6-A.
Trinity boys 68, Huntington 42
Trinity’s boys team also had no problem defeating the Hounds as the Saints took an easy 68-42 win Monday night at Huntington.
Huntington scored the first four points but Trinity fired up the offense and found themselves up 19-6 late in the first quarter.
“We moved the ball well,” Trinity head coach David King said. “They ran a good zone and it was good for our offense to see that.”
The Saints showed no signs of slowing down and took an 18-point lead at the half.
“We struggled shooting the ball,” Huntington head coach David Boydstun said. “We’ve been off the past two weeks. We have to come together and play better.”
Trinity would score 30 in the second half and never allowed the Hounds the chance to mount a comeback.
“We are getting better each game,” King said. “We got a little sloppy but it was an overall good team effort.”
Jackson Bryant led the Saints with 22 points while teammate Kent King added 14.
Tyler Pere led Huntington with 12 and Kevin Brown added nine.
