Alcorn State falls to Jackson State 83-63

JACKSON (AP) — Grant Maxey scored 30 points to lead Jackson State to a 83-63 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday night.
Jackson State (3-12, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) has won two straight games.
Maxey, who scored 13 points in the first half, helped Jackson State outscore Alcorn State 16-4 during a four minute stretch that turned a 19-15 lead into a 36-19 advantage with 3:55 left in the first half.
Alcorn State (2-14, 0-3), managed to pulled within 70-62 with 3:59 remaining, but Jackson State responded with an 11-1 run to put the game out of reach.
The loss was Alcorn State’s eighth straight under first-year head coach Larry Smith.
Darrion Griffin added 15 points for Jackson State, which outrebounded Alcorn State 45-31.
Anthony Ford led Alcorn State with 18 points, while Troy Jackson scored 17 and Jarvis Williams added 12 points in the losing effort.
