NATCHEZ — What started as a simple request to use an acquaintance’s phone ended in armed robbery Friday.

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Maj. Jody Waldrop said a resident on County Club Drive reported he was robbed at gunpoint by Lee R. Smith, 42, 28 Broadmoor Drive, after he let Smith in his house to use the phone.

“A short time after that there was a knock at the door,” Waldrop.

That knock was Smith’s son, Zachary Clay, and when Clay got to the house — things took a turn for the worse.

Waldrop said after Clay arrived Smith allegedly pulled a gun on the homeowner and demanded jewelry and money.

Clay and Smith allegedly got away with $800 in cash and some jewelry.

But Smith’s life on the lam was short lived.

Waldrop said Smith was arrested at home a short time later.

Smith is currently being held without bond at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff’s deputies are still locking for Clay.
