NATCHEZ — Three days after upsetting one of the top teams in Class 5A in Warren Central, the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs returned to Division 6-5A action Friday night against Wingfield.
With Natchez High at 3-1 in division play heading into the game and playing its fourth straight home game this month, a win over the Lady Falcons would all but clinch the No. 2 seed for the Lady Bulldogs in next month’s division tournament.
And even though Wingfield entered this game with the same division record as Natchez High, the Lady Bulldogs were too much for the Lady Falcons in a decisive 66-28 blowout win.
Keosha Bradley led Natchez High with 28 points and Alia Frank scored 15 points. They were the only two players for either team to score in double figures.
As for any thoughts of the Lady Bulldogs having a letdown after the big win over Warren Central, head coach Sue Johnson said, “No because we stressed that we’re going to take one game at a time and stay focused.”
Defensively, Natchez High had its best performance of the season as it held Wingfield to just six points in the first, second and fourth quarters. A. Kelly led the Lady Falcons with nine points and M. Burns had seven points.
“They played a good defensive game. Everybody hustled,” Johnson said.
By halftime, Natchez High (15-7, 4-1) had a commanding 32-12 lead and Wingfield never made a game of it in the second half.

A game that saw a lot of momentum swings in regulation ended with the Falcons edging past the Bulldogs Friday night in a key Division 6-5A game for both teams.
Wingfield led 18-10 after one quarter of play, only to end up trailing Natchez High 31-28 at halftime. But the Falcons responded by outscoring the Bulldogs 26-9 in the third quarter and appeared ready to put the game out of reach with a 54-40 lead.
However, the Bulldogs were not going to let that happen as they scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to just nine for the Falcons to send the game into overtime tied at 63-63.
But Natchez High could not keep the momentum going in the extra period as it was outscored by Wingfield 8-6. The loss dropped the Bulldogs (11-10 overall) to 2-3 in division play.
James Reed led the Bulldogs with a game-high 20 points and Jeremy McMorris chipped in with 14 points. Terry Jackson led Wingfield (13-5 overall) with 19 points while Jarvis Cattenhead added 17 points.
