Take action against drunk drivers

If you could stop a drunk driver from getting behind the wheel of a car, driving down the road and smashing into a vehicle carrying a family of four, would you?
The Mississippi Legislature has a chance to do just that.
A bill before the Legislature would allow Mississippi judges to order defendants found guilty of driving under the influence install an ignition-interlock device in their vehicle.
The device includes a breath-test machine into which drivers must blow. If their breath tests over the legal limit, the car simply won’t start.
Currently a law is in place that allows judges to use the sentence in the case of defendants convicted of a second DUI.
But Mothers Against Drunk Driving believe that eliminates many drivers who drive drunk and simply aren’t caught as often.
We all know the consequences of driving drunk. But yet, drivers still get behind the wheel intoxicated every day.
It’s time to use technology to save lives and make the ignition-interlock system more common in the cars of the states drunk drivers.
It won’t save every life, but it might save one.
