ST. JOSEPH, La. — The Tensas Academy Lady Chiefs moved closer to clinching the top seed in their half of MPSA District 6-A as they handily defeated the Huntington Lady Hounds 62-33 Friday night.

With the win, Tensas Academy (16-7 overall) improved to 6-0 in the District 6A East Sub-district and will wrap up the No. 1 seed in the district tournament with a win over struggling Franklin Academy next Tuesday night.

Huntington didn’t have much luck in the first half against the Lady Chiefs’ stifling defense. The Lady Hounds scored just 4 points in the first quarter and ended up with 10 points at the end of the half. Tensas Academy, on the other hand, had very little trouble getting the ball to go in the basket, scoring 23 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second quarter.

Mary Miller Ratcliff led the Lady Chiefs with 19 points, while Emma Arceneaux had 14 points and Jordan Leake added 13 points.

Despite trailing by 28 points at the half, the Lady Hounds did not throw in the towel. They outscored the Lady Chiefs 16-11 in the third quarter, but once again their offense sputtered in the fourth quarter.

Huntington (8-16, 1-6) was led by Julie Moak with 9 points and Abi Brown and Julia Corbett with 8 points each.

Ferriday 60, Farmerville 42

FARMERVILLE, La. — Three days after returning to the lineup in limited action at Jonesboro-Hodge, Ferriday post player Jasmine Upchurch returned to her form as she led all scorers with 22 points as the Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Farmers Friday night.

The win was important for Ferriday as it improved to 3-1 in District 2-2A after going 2-2 in its last four games, including its first district loss of the season Tuesday night at Jonesboro-Hodge. The Lady Trojans are now 23-4 overall.

With Upchurch back in the starting lineup, not only did Ferriday’s offense improve but so did its defense. The Lady Trojans torched Farmerville in the first quarter to the tune of 23 points and scored another 16 points in the second quarter. The Lady Farmers, on the other hand, scored 12 points in the first quarter, but did even worse in the second quarter with a mere nine points.

Farmerville (11-11, 1-2) tried to make a comeback by outscoring Ferriday 15-7 in the third quarter to make it a 46-36 game at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Trojans made sure that would not happen as they outscored the Lady Farmers 14-6 in the fourth quarter.

Jasmine Butler had 15 points and Chante Poole chipped in with 10 points for Ferriday. Alexis Magee led Farmerville with 14 points and China Kennedy scored 11 points.

Amite County 56, Jefferson County 54

LIBERTY — Coming off an embarrassing 34-point loss at South Pike on Tuesday night, the Jefferson County Lady Tigers were looking to get back on track against the Amite County Lady Trojans.

And even though Jefferson County got a game-high 28 points from Erin Wells, it could not make its free throws and Amite County was able to pull out a two-point win in Region 7-3A action Friday night.

“We missed 15 free throws. That was the difference in the ball game,” Lady Tigers head coach Flora McKnight said.

Charlita White added 14 points for Jefferson County. Amite County was led by Cikia Patterson and Tydesheaia Pool with 17 points each.

ACCS 60, River Oaks 17

MONROE, La. — River Oaks was probably glad when the first quarter came to an end. Especially considering that the Lady Mustangs did not score a single point at home against District 3-AA rival ACCS.

The Lady Rebels went on a 21-0 run in the game’s first eight minutes and rolled to a 43-point win Friday night. The victory was a big one considering they lost to district and city rival Trinity Episcopal by 40 points last Tuesday night.

By halftime, ACCS enjoyed a commanding 35-8 lead. And even though the Lady Rebels scored just eight point in the third quarter, the Lady Mustangs managed a meager two points. Ashley Morrison led ACCS with 14 points while Barbara Ann Holliday led River Oaks with eight points.

Trinity Episcopal 70, Riverfield 37

RAYVILLE, La. — Caroline Ketchings scored 15 points while Bethany Ogden and Madelyn Cross had 10 points apiece to lead the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints to an easy win over the Riverfield Lady Raiders Friday night in MPSA District 3-AA action.

Trinity Episcopal (18-10, 4-1) jumped out to a commanding 22-6 lead after one quarter of play and by halftime was up 37-18. The Lady Saints didn’t let up in the second half as they continued to play tenacious defense.

Cortney Chapman led Riverfield with a game-high 20 points, but the next high scorer for the Lady Raiders was Rachel Mosely with six points.

WCCA 66, Franklin Academy 19

WOODVILLE — Six WCCA players scored at least six points with Allie Fontenot leading the way with 14 points as the Lady Rams maintained second place in MPSA District 6-A East Sub-district play with a big win over the Lady Cougars Friday night.

Mary Claire Netterville finished with 13 points and Bethany Fletcher added eight points while Caroline Walker, Terri Fisher and Erin O’Leary contributed with six points each for WCCA (13-6, 5-2).

The Lady Rams took command of the game with a 25-2 advantage in the first quarter and never looked back from there. Franklin Academy was led by Mallory Welch with seven points.
