VIDALIA — Funeral services for Solomon Smother Jr., 82, of Vidalia, who died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Hospital, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. today at Zion Baptist Church with Masonic and Eastern Star ceremonies.

Mr. Smother was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Morville, La., the son of the Rev. Solomon Smothers Sr. and Inez Ginn Smothers. He was the owner of Solomon Tire Repairs and a member of Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Natchez. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II, and was an active member of the Pride of Vidalia Masonic Lodge and the Rosewood Chapter No. 65 of the Order of the Eastern Star of Vidalia.

He is survived by two daughters, Corine Fleming of Vidalia and Inez Duck of Gallatin, Tenn.; one brother, Tom Kegler of Los Angeles; one sister-in-law, Viola Robertson of Houston; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one god-sister, Corine Brown of Vidalia; a niece and nephew, Eliana and Vincent Kegler of Los Angeles; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
