Inauguration one of many good things

As most of our country watched the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama this week, a few locals saw things a bit closer.

A handful of Miss-Lou residents attended the festivities in Washington, D.C., but that doesn’t mean the good news stopped back home.

Let’s review a few of the good headlines last week brought us.

4 Natchez High School student Guy Wimberly has been named the school’s STAR student. Wimberly has been making headlines since his middle school spelling bee, and we know this young man has what it takes to go places.

4 The Natchez-Adams County Airport recently received a grant for $68,000 for work on a runway. In these tough economic times, local leaders must search for alternative funding sources, and we are glad to see the airport is doing so.

4 Adams County Supervisor Thomas “Boo” Campbell was honored for his community work at last weekend’s NAACP banquet. Campbell, who was active in the Civil Rights movement, received the Medgar Evers Award. Campbell has been a dedicated community leader for years and we congratulate him for the latest honor.

As January comes to a close, we know the last week of the month will bring more good news.
