FAYETTE — Keosha Bradley scored a game-high 33 points and got some unexpected help from Jameka Watkins and Ashley Minor as the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs defeated the Jefferson County Lady Tigers 74-41 Tuesday night.

While Bradley had her usual performance, Watkins and Minor stepped up their games on the offensive end and finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Natchez High (16-8) needed to get off to a good start against a Jefferson County team that has played well at home this season. And that’s exactly what happened as the Lady Bulldogs scored 25 points in the first quarter while the Lady Tigers were held to just six points.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained their 19-point lead at halftime and then put the game out of reach with an 18-6 advantage over the Lady Tigers in the third quarter.

Erin Wells led Jefferson County with 26 points, but she was the only Lady Tigers player to score in double figures.

ACCS 52, Riverfield 35

RAYVILLE, La. — Ashley Morrison had a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds and Chelsea Freeman pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Rebels to a big win over the Lady Raiders in MPSA District 3-AA action Tuesday night.

ACCS now stands at 3-3 in district play and will probably have to win one of its last two games to advance to the South State Tournament. The Lady Rebels host Prairie View Academy, currently ranked No. 4 in Class AA, this Friday and host River Oaks on Feb. 5.

Defense was the key to the win for the Lady Rebels as they really never gave Riverfield much of a chance to stay in this game. At halftime, ACCS led Riverfield 27-15 and increased its lead to 18 points at the end of the third quarter.

Courtney Chapman led the Lady Raiders with 13 points.

Trinity Episcpoal 54, Sicily Island 16

SICILY ISLAND, La. — The first-ever meeting between the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints and the Sicily Island Lady Tigers ended up in a lopsided win for the Lady Saints – just as they did to St. Aloysius and Cathedral.

The first quarter told the story of how this game was going to turn out. Trinity Episcopal had its way with Sicily Island and by the time the quarter had come to an end, the Lady Saints led 24-0. The Lady Tigers were able to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter, yet still trailed 34-3 at halftime.

Danielle Givens led Trinity Episcopal (19-11) with 10 points and Caroline Ketchings had nine points. Only two players scored for Sicily Island (1-20) – Lataygia Williamson had 10 points and Amanda Daniels added six points.

Tensas Academy 60, Franklin Academy 26

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Mary Miller Ratcliff finished with a game-high 21 points and Mary Elizabeth Crigler chipped in with 10 points as the Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Cougars Tuesday night in MPSA District 6-A East Sub-district action.

With the win, Tensas Academy (17-7, 7-0) clinched the No. 1 seed from the East Sub-district for next week’s District 6-A Tournament, which will be held at Huntington School in Ferriday.

The Lady Chiefs jumped out to a 14-1 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back from that point. Once the first half came to an end, they had enjoyed a commanding 30-9 lead and didn’t let up in the second half.

Emily Collins led Franklin Academy (2-5 in sub-district play) with 10 points.

Tallulah Academy 62, Huntington 47

FERRIDAY — Emilee Johns scored a game-high 27 points for Huntington, but it was not enough as the Lady Hounds could not overcome a big first-quarter deficit and lost to the Lady Trojans in an MPSA District 6-A East Sub-district game Tuesday night.

Led by Anna Beth Book and Megan Givens, Tallulah Academy dominated the first quarter en route to a 24-6 lead. The Lady Trojans then outscored Huntington 16-11 in the second quarter for a 40-17 halftime lead.

The Lady Hounds picked up the pace offensively in the second half, but it was too little, too late. Book led the Lady Trojans with 23 points and Givens added 12 points.
