PASCAGOULA — The Franklin County Bulldogs saw their season come to a disappointing end in the second round of the Class 1A-3A playoffs last Saturday, falling to Resurrection 3-2.

“We had ample opportunities to win the game,” Franklin County coach Jamie Madison said. “We controlled the whole second half. The first half we were flat. It’s hard to take a four-hour bus ride and then get right off the bus and play.”

Resurrection jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime thanks to goals by Matt Mallette.

Franklin County countered with a goal by David Brown less than a minute into the second half, but Mallette added his third goal 15 minutes later.

Brown scored again for the Bulldogs to close the gap to one, but Resurrection held on for the win.

It was a tough loss for a Bulldog team that had higher goals for their season.

“We felt like we should be playing in the state championship game, but the ball didn’t fall for us,” Madison said. “We thought us and Cathedral would be playing in the South State championship game. I thought those were the two best teams in the south. It’s just really disappointing that we didn’t get a chance to show that.”
