BASTROP, La. — In the first half, the Prairie View Academy Lady Spartans played like the No. 4 team in all of Class AA as they dominated Trinity Episcopal on both ends of the court en route to a 14-point halftime lead.

But then the Lady Spartans had to hold off a furious second half rally to defeat the Lady Saints 39-37 Tuesday night and win the District 3-AA championship.

Led by Caroline Oliphant and Lena Kate Thompson, Prairie View (31-4, 7-0) jumped out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter of play and took a 22-8 lead into halftime. But Trinity Episcopal found its offensive rhythm in the second half and nearly pulled off what would have been a huge upset win.
