VIDALIA — After a hard fought overtime victory over Marksville last Friday, the Vidalia Vikings stepped up their game and soundly defeated the Buckeye Panthers 72-44 at home Tuesday evening.

Vidalia (23-1, 5-0) completes the first half of it’s district schedule undefeated and is rolling to a No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

The Vikings used a full court press early and went on an 11-0 run to go up 18-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Buckeye struggled on offense and the Viking lead grew to 31 at the end of the third quarter.

“They tried to slow up our offense early,” Vidalia head coach Robert Sanders said. “We had to speed up our offense and it caused some of our guys to miss open shots.”

The fourth quarter would be the Panthers’ highest scoring quarter, albeit against the Viking second string.

Torrey Dixon led the Viking effort with 23 points while teammate Gary Stewart added 14 points.

Jeremy Fuqua was the leading scorer for Buckeye with 14 points.

Vidalia will host Bunkie Friday to open up the second half of its district schedule.

“We are going to have to contain their big man,” Sanders said. “We know what they will be bringing.”

Buckeye girls 38, Vidalia 31

Vidalia’s girls are still looking for their first district win after a tough loss against the Buckeye Lady Panthers Tuesday evening.

The Lady Vikings were down by 10 points at the half, but played close with Buckeye throughout the second half to give the Lady Panthers a run for their money.

Unfortunately for Vidalia, a nine point fourth quarter wouldn’t be enough to pull out a win and the Lady Vikings will once again try for that first win Friday when they host Bunkie.

Dejanae Harris scored nine points to lead Vidalia while teammate Kisha Swanson added seven.

Kristen Dauzart led the Lady Panthers with 13 points.
