Driver’s acts senseless to resident

At about 11:15 a.m. on Thursday I was walking down the street I live on (Washington Street) right past the Elms. I saw my old yellow Tomcat ambling across the street several yards farther along.

I called him, but the old fellow evidently didn’t hear me. Right about then, a woman in a small black car started down the street toward my cat. She was going very slowly; but evidently she saw my cat and sped up, heading for him. He barely made it across. Her wheels almost hit him.

The senseless meanness of this act not only infuriated me, it also destroyed much of my belief in the caring spirit and in the born goodness of mankind. Perhaps this driver was trying to duplicate violence she sees in movies and on TV.
