CARENCRO, La. (AP) — A float rider fell to his death after Saturday’s Mardi Gras parade in Carencro.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Lt. Craig Stansbury says the 23-year-old man fell in front of the float, which hit him. He says the parade was over and the float had left the parade route.

Stansbury says the man’s name cannot be released because police have not been able to reach is next-of-kin.

Mayor Glenn Brasseaux says that during the parade, a man riding a four-wheeler in the parade swerved to avoid a small child who ran in front of him — and flipped the vehicle.
