WINNSBORO, La. — The Huntington Hounds ended their preseason with a tough 6-4 loss to the Prairie View Academy Spartans Thursday afternoon at the Franklin Academy Preseason Tournament.

“We made a few errors that we just can’t make,” Huntington head coach Leo Eliser said. “We hit the ball a little bit better today. Our bats improved a little bit.”

Huntington went into the top of the fifth inning trailing 6-2. Joey Roberts hit a leadoff single, followed by a single by Phillip Washington. Then with one out, Tyler Peré doubled in both base runners to make it a 6-4 game. Aaron Maroon and Jordan Jones then walked to load the bases, and there was still just one out.

But pinch-hitter Hunter Knapp and losing pitcher Jess Dossett both struck out to end the rally and the game.

Prairie View scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but Huntington responded with two runs of its own in the top of the second. Then a couple of infield errors by the Hounds helped the Spartans score four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

“We learned a lot. We played five games and went through five different lineups,” Eliser said. “We threw five different kids (on the mound). Josh Lee is still out. Hopefully we’ll have him for the Tallulah game.”

Huntington begins its regular season next Monday when it hosts Adams County Christian School with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.
