Dannie H. “Dutch” Carter Jr.

NATCHEZ — Services for Dannie H. Carter Jr., 82, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at his daughter’s residence will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Edgar Wright officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Cater was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Wilkinson County, the son of Dannie H. Carter Sr. and Emma Cavin Carter.

He was a member of Morgantown Baptist Church. Mr. Carter was a Mason and a Shriner and was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 1, Andrew Jackson No. 2, Natchez Chapter No. 1, Natchez Council No. 1, Rosalie Comandry No. 5, Natchez Shrine Club, Wahabi Shrine and 32nd Scottish Rite Mason.

He earned his 50-year pen and a certificate from Master of Harmony Lodge No. 1 in 1988, was treasury Harmony No. 1 from 1990-2007 and earned a certificate of proficiency in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, June Smith Carter and two sisters, Lizzena Carter Smith and Annette Carter Hensley.

Survivors include his wife, Mary May Carter; two children, Deana Hennington and Dannie H. Carter III; four stepchildren, the Rev. Wayne Arnold, Herbert Arnold Jr., Helen Burns and Mary Harper; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and one sister, Edna Carter Fife.

Pallbearers will be Jason Hennington, Stephen Carter, Will Harper, Drew Burns, Jack Cupit and John Cain.

Honorary pallbearers are the brothers of Harmony No. 1, Andrew Jackson No. 2 and the men of Missouri Pacific.
