VIDALIA — The man facing charges in an April 2008 killing will be in court today.
Ricardo Kentrell Dukes, 30, of 6 Ray St., Natchez, was arrested April 3, 2008, in connection with the stabbing death of 50-year-old Frank E. Holmes.
Dukes is charged with manslaughter, and he will be in Seventh Judicial District Court today for a trial of motions.
A trial of motions is a legal step toward a trial, in which defense attorneys and prosecutors will argue what the boundaries of the trial should be.
The Vidalia Police responded to an emergency call at 103A John Dale Drive late on the night of April 2.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they found Holmes lying unconscious on the bathroom floor. He did not have a pulse.
The coroner’s office declared him dead at the scene.
Holmes reportedly had two stab wounds to the chest and cuts to his wrists, according to police at the time of the incident.
Witnesses at the scene identified Dukes as the suspect.
He later reportedly told police that the stabbing was the result of an argument that escalated into a knife fight, according to the police involved at the time.
The two men had apparently been drinking, and police said they found marijuana in the residence.
The Natchez Police located Dukes at home and detained him for questioning before a Vidalia officer arrested him on a warrant.
