BUDE — The Franklin County baseball team collected two 10-0 shutouts Tuesday evening, as Bulldog pitchers Colton Laird and Phillip Dillon struck 11 batters to notch the shutouts in a pair of five-inning contests.
The Bulldogs (4-3, 4-0) travel to Loyd Star at 11 a.m. Saturday for a key non-division contest.
“Both our pitchers pitched well, and our team played okay,” said head baseball coach Brent Calcote about the doubleheader sweep of Region 7-3A team Jefferson County.
In game one, Franklin County senior Ryan Williamson got things started with a three-run homer to lift the Bulldogs to a 3-0 lead. Williamson followed his third inning blast in the fourth frame with a sacrifice fly that gave Franklin County a 5-0 lead.
Jordan Hunt, Franklin County’s fleet-flooted senior left fielder, added two singles for 2 RBI, and had four stolen bases. Junior centerfielder DeHendret Collins added two singles and two stolen bases.
Laird, a junior, fanned 11 in four innings of work limiting the Tigers to one hit in the contest.
Game two featured a full dose of Franklin County senior southpaw Phillip Dillon, who struck 11 out and picked one batter off in four innings of action. Dillon allowed one hit.
Colton Laird led all Franklin County batters with a triple and single for two RBI in the victory. Kin Mullins, Calvin Robinson, Justin Smallwood, and Preston Shelton each added a single.
Franklin County has outscored its last four opponents by a score of 57-3. The Bulldogs are riding a four-game winning streak.
“We’ve just got to keep it going,” said Franklin County senior Jordan Hunt. “We’ve got a lot of big games left still to play.”
