Franklin County captures first in academic tournament

WESSON — Franklin County High School captured first place in the annual Copiah-Lincoln Community College High School Academic Tournament held at the Thames Center on the Wesson Campus. Teams competed in the basic areas of science, mathematics, fine arts and social studies.
Over $9,000 in scholarships is awarded to members of the first and second place team members.
Members of the first place Franklin County team are Janna McGlaughn, Emily Zumbro, Mitch Faucheux, James Cruse, Adiel Vasquez, Kelli-Anne Terrell and Cortez Bowlin. Sponsors for the team are Kenneth Douglas, Carole Rider and Talina King.
Participating schools include Wesson High School, Brookhaven High School, Franklin County High School, Lawrence County High School, Brookhaven Academy, Loyd Star High School, Tylertown High School, McComb High School, Parklane Academy, Simpson County Academy, West Lincoln High School and Enterprise High School.
The annual tournament is sponsored by the Co-Lin Scholars Bowl Team.
Co-Lin’s Scholars Bowl Team recently captured first place in the 2009 NAQT Mississippi Community College Sectionals Championship Tournament held at Mississippi State University.
