MANSFIELD, La. (AP) — A worker at the Dolet Hills lignite mine in northwestern Louisiana is dead after an accident.
Officials say the employee was working with a team moving a large dragline when the accident occurred Friday.
The worker’s identity has not been released.
Dolet Hills Mining Company is a subsidiary of Southwestern Electric Power. The company utilizes two draglines to expose lignite veins.
The death is the first at the mine since lignite excavation began at the southeastern DeSoto Parish site in the 1980s. It provides lignite for the Dolet Hills Power Station.
