National Guard accepting candidates for alternative program

Natchez — The Mississippi National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy, selected 2008 Best Overall Program, is now accepting applications for call No. 31 that will start July 18.

The Youth ChalleNGe is the premier high school alternative for Mississippi youth who have been unsuccessful in the traditional educational environment.

The academy offers students 16 to 19 years of age the opportunity to earn an adult high school diploma, and if qualified, up to 15 semesters hours of college through a local university, nationally certified construction skills and Microsoft and OSHA certifications.

The mission of the Mississippi ChalleNGe Academy is to improve the education life-coping skills and employment potential of Mississippi’s youth, ensuring their success in today’s competitive market place.

Over 5,600 students have graduated from the Mississippi ChalleNGe Academy. Both males and females are encouraged to apply. There is no cost to the applicants, with the exception of senior portraits, class rings and yearbooks that are optional and will be made available for purchase.
