NATCHEZ — When Jackson Mayor Frank Melton is re-tried in May, it won’t be in Natchez.
Federal prosecutor Mark Blumberg had requested Melton’s civil rights violation trial be moved out of Jackson.
And Natchez, along with, Meridian or the Gulf Coast had been named as possible relocation venues.
But on Tuesday presiding Judge Dan Jordan said the new trial will take place in Jackson.
Blumberg wanted the trial moved so that Melton, who had already been tried in Jackson, could get a fair re-trial.
Jordan said jurors in the new trial will likely come from the Gulf Coast, not Jackson.
