DAR chapters attend conferences

Natchez — Four members of the Natchez Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution attended the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Ridgeland on Feb. 13 through Feb. 15.

Those attending the were Mary Willard, Julie Kendall, Susan Cassagne and Julliette Cassagne. Leslie Bruning, regent of the William Dunbar Chapter, also attended.

Chapter regent Mary Willard gave a report on chapter activities at the Regent’s Night banquet. Other chapter member who have state offices or chairmanships also reported during the regular business sessions at the conference.

At the National Defense luncheon on Feb. 15, Chapter Good Citizen and state American history essay winners were recognized.

Also on Feb. 15, during the business session Julliette Cassagne, a junior member of the Natchez chapter received the outstanding Junior Member of the Year of Mississippi for her outstanding work. She will now compete at the national level in July.

State regent Polly Hunter Grimes said she was honored to have President General Linda Gist Calvin attending this state conference and DAR members were pleased to hear from her.

Outstanding certificates received by the Natchez chapter included outstanding service to veterans, participation in project patriot, constitution week activities, historic preservation, literary promotion and excellence in membership among others.
