VIDALIA — Concordia Parish now has a presence on the World Wide Web, and local economic officials want the world to know what the parish has to offer.

The Concordia Economic and Industrial Development District recently launched www.concordiaed.com, a Web site dedicated to attracting industrial prospects to the area.

“A lot of (industrial) site selectors, when they are looking for a site, they normally do most of their research on the internet,” Concordia Economic Director Heather Malone said.

Based on their findings, industrial scouts whittle their lists down to a few finalists before making a call, she said.

“If you don’t have anything out there (on the internet), you can get cut from the list without knowing you were on the list,” Malone said.

This might be particularly true with a small company.

“If it is a smaller company, they might not have a site selector, but you would want to provide enough information to lure them to call you,” Malone said.

One of the pages on the Web site includes general demographic information about the area so businesses considering locating in the area will know about the local workforce and population at large.

Another page on the site lists recruiting products — like industrial parks — that the parish can offer.

And it’s that section that the economic district wants to expand, Malone said.

“We have been trying to get the word out through our municipalities that we are doing a property search, and we are trying to gather all of the available commercial and industrial property and buildings in the parish,” she said.

Anyone who wants to promote their commercial or industrial property on the web site will just need to fill out a form that details the general specifics of the property.

“If we get any type of lead on that property we will contact the property owner,” Malone said.
