Widow will fill sheriff’s shoes best

Sometimes the best man for a job is a woman. And in the case of finding the person to fill the shoes left by the late county sheriff, Ronny Brown, supervisors found exactly who knew and would carry out Ronny’s plan best — his wife.

Earlier this week, Adams County Supervisors unanimously approved the appointment of Angie Brown to fill the role of sheriff until a special election in November.

Tapping Angie to fill the vacancy left by Ronny’s death is a smart move for the county — and not just because such appointments are tradition.

The fact is that such traditions were not borne of some sort of sense of charity, but rather the government’s selfish sense of keeping things whole in an office that would otherwise be rocked with change.

The fact is that, as the his wife, Angie was closer to the sheriff than anyone else and thus likely can more easily handle things as he would have wanted them to be handled.

She will do a fine job helping lead the existing team to hold down the fort over the next several months.

Her experience and intelligence will serve her well in the new leadership role. And we’re happy the supervisors made the right choice.
