NATCHEZ — An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspected driver in last week’s car chase that stretched from Sicily Island, La., to Woodville.

Sicily Island Police Chief Paul Jackson said an arrest warrant for Justin Wells was issued Wednesday.

Jackson said Wells was the driver of the vehicle that lead authorities from multiple agencies in a high speed chase that topped 100 mph at times.

Wells is wanted on charges of speeding, aggravated flight from an officer and careless operation of a motor vehicle.

It was previously believed that Jonathan Pittman, the registered owner of the vehicle driven by Wells, was the driver.

However Jackson said that was later proven untrue.

Officer Ricky Parker, the first officer in the pursuit, said a substance he believed to be marijuana was thrown from the vehicle shortly after the chase started.

“But it could not be recovered,” he said.

Jackson said he did not feel there was enough information to charge Pittman or an unidentified female passenger in the car with any crimes.

Jackson said he did not know when Wells would be arrested.
