LORMAN — The Braves’ men’s basketball team received its second verbal commitment from a Mississippi All-Star.

Shaunvanta Ingram, of Bruce High, has given coach Larry Smith a verbal commitment that he will join the Braves basketball squad next season. The 6-foot-3-inch guard averaged 24 points per game this season and has played all positions at Bruce during one time or another.

“I feel as though I could impact the program as a player. Coach Smith and Coach Adams’ love for the program also helped the decision,” Ingram said.

Smith said, conversely, it’s Ingram’s love for the game and his academic commitment that drew the Braves’ interest.

“Shaunvata’s … ability to score, grab rebounds, dish assists and his passing ability will be great assets to Alcorn,” Bruce coach Willie Brown said.

This is Alcorn State’s second verbal commitment for the 09-10 basketball season. The first was Oxford native Keith Searcy.
