NATCHEZ — Services for N.M. Steed, 83, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Dick Root officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Steed was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Attala County, the son of Newton Hilman Steed and Mary Harriett Whitten Steed. He was a member of Covington Road Church of Christ in Natchez. He was a member of the Home Builders Association on the local, state and national levels. Mr. Steed was recently awarded the Life Achievement Award by the Natchez Chapter. He served as president of the Home Builders Association for the Natchez and state chapters. He also served on the board of directors on the state and national levels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Eva Ray and Coye Mangrum.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nelene Dill Steed; one son, Kendall Steed and wife, Pat, both of Farmers Branch, Texas; three daughters, Vicki S. Hite of Denham Springs, La., Kitty S. Simpson and husband, Ray, both of Natchez, and Penny S. Lovitt and husband, Bo, both of Hattiesburg; one brother, Aaron Steed of Ethel; nine grandchildren, Aaron Steed, Laura S. Short, Clara M. McDaniel, Lance Butler, Roxanne B. Hamilton, Jessica S. Biglane, Ray Simpson Jr., Cameron Lovitt and Taylor Lovitt; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Brian, Skylar Hamilton, Kaylee Butler and Jadyne Rae Biglane.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Steed, Ray Simpson Jr., Lance Butler, Cameron Lovitt, Taylor Lovitt and T.C. Short.
