JACKSON (AP) — A resolution has been filed in the Mississippi Senate to revive a proposed cigarette tax increase.
A proposal to raise the state’s 18-cent excise tax died this week after lawmakers failed to reach a deal by the legislative deadline.
The resolution filed Friday by Sen. Bill Stone of Ashland would suspend the deadlines so the measure could be brought up again for more negotiations.
It would take a two-thirds vote by both chambers to suspend the rules.
