Ferriday — Services for John E. Lawrence, 68, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, March 31, 2009, at Riverland Medical Center, in Ferriday, will be 11 a.m. Monday, at St. James Baptist Church in Ridgecrest. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery.

Mr. Lawrence was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Ferriday, the son of John Anderson Lawrence and Lizzie Gardner.

He was a retired carpenter and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie V. Lawrence, of Ferriday; three brothers, Raymond Lawrence, of Flint, Mich., Roger Gardner, of Atlanta, and Richard Gardner, of Memphis; five sisters, Ruby Baker, Doris Johnson and husband, Otis, Barbara Ann Howard and husband,Andrew and Ann Gardner, all of Ferriday, and Ethel Gray, and husband, Spencer, of Gulfport; godchild Rochelle B. Kay, of New Orleans; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
