TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A lawyer says the parents of an imprisoned American journalist have arrived in Tehran to pursue their daughter’s release.
Reza Saberi and his wife, Akiko, arrived in the country from North Dakota early Sunday. Their lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshai, says the parents hope to meet with Iranian authorities later Sunday to seek permission to see their daughter, Roxana Saberi.
Iranian officials say Roxana Saberi was arrested for working in the country after her press credentials expired. Her parents found out about her arrest in a Feb. 10 phone call from her.
Saberi grew up in Fargo, North Dakota, and is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Iran. She has reported for several news organizations.
