Natchez High boys track team wins district meet

JACKSON — Natchez High’s boys track team was dominant in capturing the Division 6-5A championship Tuesday with a total of 97 points while the girls finished in fourth place with a total of 43 points.
Wesley Pendleton won the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. Ernest Jones won the long jump and finished second in the high jump and the triple jump. Joseph Perry won the 800-meter run and was a part of the winning 4×400 relay team along with Orlando Prater, Jones, and Travis Woods.
The 4×100 relay team of Rico Richardson, Willie Newman, Jeremy Davis and Gabe Campbell came in first place. Richardson won the triple jump and came in third in the long jump. Campbell was second in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Newman finished in fourth place in the 100-meter dash, the shot put and the discus.
Natchez High’s girls team finished just two points behind third-place Jim Hill, which had 45 points. Wingfield blew away the competition on the girls’ side with 100 total points – a good 44 points ahead of second-place Terry.
Alicia Wimley was won the 100-meter run, the 400-meter dash, and the triple jump, finished second in the 100-meter dash, and was a part of the winning 4×400 relay team with Jessica Gails, Jacquerra Williams and Pam Selman.
Selman finished in first place in the 800-meter run and was fourth in the 1600-meter run. Gails was second in the 200-meter dash. Lamesha Anderson won the 300-meter hurldles and was on the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams that each finished in fourth place.
The top 4 finishers in each event advance to the Regional Meet, which will take place next Thursday in Meridian.
